The West Valley City Police Department accepts applications for Police Officers as the need arises; open positions will be posted through West Valley City Human Resources. You may check for open positions or sign up to be notified when positions are posted on the West Valley City Jobs website. 

Applicants are divided into four groups: 

  1. Non-certified (need to attend the academy)
  2. SFO/BCO (currently have SFO/BCO state certifications)
  3. Certifiable/currently attending the academy
  4. Certified/law enforcement experienced (lateral)  

*We are currently offering a $5,000 hiring incentive for qualified lateral applicants.

You simply apply under the category that you may fall under, and our Human Resources Department will contact you and schedule you for each of the phases of the hiring process. It’s as simple as that!

  • Hold an active Utah POST certification or an equivalent out-of-state law enforcement certification and successfully complete the Utah POST waiver process.
  • Have completed field training with another law enforcement agency.
  • Have patrol experience.
