What is needed for the report? 

  • Who - The victim is person who is telling the story (YOU).
  • What - Identifies what is damaged, lost or stolen and attach photos and documents supporting the crime that you are reporting.   
  • When - The timeframe when the offense occurred. 
  • Where - The offense location is used to determine jurisdiction. 
  • How - The story explaining what happened, including the Who, What, When and Where from above.

These questions are designed to gather the victim information, location, items, time, and summary of the crime you are reporting.  During the approval process if this information is not included in your report, the report will be sent back to you to add the further details about the crime you are reporting.

Upon completion of this report process you will:

  • See the words: "Your online police report has been submitted" showing that your police report is complete.
  • Be given a police report case number.
  • Be able to print a copy of the police report to keep for your records.

  • All cases filed using the Citizens Online Police Reporting System will be reviewed.
  • Upon review, if further investigation of your case is needed, you may be contacted.

No. If a crime took place outside West Valley City, please call the police department for the city where the crime took place.

No, although the incident took place within the county limits, the only reports that can be filed with us have to be within the city limits.

No. This type of property requires an officer to make the report.  

Physical Evidence is defined as anything that was left behind such as: fingerprints left behind by the suspect(s), suspect items. Please call 801-840-4000.  An officer will complete the offense report and collect the evidence.

Unfortunately, the temporary incident report is a one-time printable document, however, once your report has been reviewed and approved, you will receive an email with an attached copy of the official police report.
